My Most Admired Men

My Most Admired Men.

Admired for the example they set and the leadership they displayed.

Probably the greatest leader of the 20th century has been Nelson Mandela, may he rest in Peace.

For bringing the enemies together within South Africa to a peaceful democratic peoples, and the example of Respect for all the communities of that troubled country. What a man.

Before Mandela my most admired men for a very  long time had been  Mahatma Gandhi, also a lawyer and a man who made peaceful protest a way of bringing about political change.

What examples these men set. I do so wish that some of the leaders in the trouble spots of our world today would just stop the killing and think of these two.

My thanks to them both for the work they did and the standards of morality they set.

This has all ways been a worry when the weather closes in or I loose contact with my friends.

Finally there is a product that will help me keep track of where I am.

It was fun as we were in a company box and the added TV screen and snacks were good too.

Sounds  like Gomes did a great job and it must have been very exciting too down there in St. Louis.

This does not advance their cause, it just makes them look like weak bullies.

My heart goes out to those in pain from the loss of a Mum, Dad, Child or other loved one.

Democracy  has some problems - Egypt et al.

And the problem is the "winner". When an election is won on a margin of 1or 2% there are almost as many voters who loose as win.

The big danger is that the winner will only implement policies that help his or her supporters and upset the opposition.

The winner of the election MUST do what is good for the population as a whole not just one element. 

The consequences of selfishly working is ANOTHER REVOLUTION,,,

Dear Prince Philip,

Hope you have a fairly comfortable session in hospital  today. It will not be much fun.

You are  one of my favorite celebrities as you say what you want to and is very well informed about subjects you follow and speak on.

Enjoy the company of the staff and hopefully you will get plenty of visitors including your God Son.

I am so impressed at how well you move and the fact that you risk going down steps without any rail or stick. As the consequences of a fall could be fatal. So take care when you come out of hospital and only accept treatment that will allow you to maintain your quality of life.

The Armed revolution that has developed in Syria has one guaranteed outcome, Death and destruction for people of all ages who get caught up in the fight.

It might one day result in a change of Government and the Ruling Elite, but the ordinary people (that survive) will not see a better life.

Supplier of armaments to the revolution will ensure more death and pain.

Peaceful revolutions take time, but they do eventually work. Civil War is grim.

No one will take any notice of these comment, but I needed to say it.

Here they go again.... and there is nothing we can do about it.  Yes the politicians can say they can help the killing come to an end.. but they cannot. If they provide more weapons to the rebels there will be more killing, or the dispute will burst out beyond the borders of Syria.

If the West offer Russia port facilities elsewhere, they will not need Syria and might try to help stop the killing. The rebels are killing other Syrians as fast as the government...

Do not support any side and eventually the dispute will come to an end due to no energy left to fight.

Both sides are committing crimes so the Internationale court will have work for years when it ends.

There is a pretense that pieces of the earths surface are Politically part of a particular piece of the planet, named as a specific country.

And we all know Argentina's President states that the Falkland Islands are part of Argentina. The new Pope Francis has also said the same, so it is reported.

What is clear from history is that Tribes have controlled and cultivated segments of the planet in order to feed themselves and breed, for many years. And then at some point, Tribes were replaced by Nations! Politics as we know it had arrived at the point of a gun.

In more modern times it is the control of economic wealth that drives claims for territory by one state against another. It nothing to do with how tribes gained control of the land on which they now live.

In the case of the Falkland Islands it is clear that many years ago they were considered very unattractive places on which to live, so the British colonized it and gave it some meager economic value. Given it seems likely that Oil exists on the extended territory, it is now worth stealing back by Argentina.

So what can be done now?

Well the 2000 + inhabitants can be ignored and just enslaved again by another invader. This will of course cost the lives of mostly young men who invade or defend the islands.

Or the current status quo can be maintained and the inhabitants  left in peace, except of course for the Oil companies that will want to start exploiting the region. This would certainly be a significant economic benefit to the islanders and the United Kingdom.

From a purely territorial point of view the islands are insignificant to a country the size of Argentina, but oil is the real issue.

However, a solution could be explored that would lead to joint economic development of the oil and mineral assets in the ocean between the Islands and Argentina, to the benefit of both parties. But for this to occur great maturity and understanding will be required by all concerned.

Can a mutually attractive solution be reached? Only if some sharing of the planets assets can be peacefully reached. That means no bullying and mine or yours solutions are required.

Good Luck for the people of the Falklands, in the middle.

Pope Benedict

Pope Benedict is a wise man in having the courage to step down before he dies in the job.
Clearly he knows his mind and wants the church to have an active leader.

Who will it be?

I have no idea as the Cardinals are not men I know. They will do their own campaigning and hopefully be lead by the ideas of Jesus Christ to help mankind cope with the behavior of our fellow humans. Their choice of leader is important not just for the secular politics of the "church" but for all of us, no matter how we see our God.
